Technology on the way to extinction…?

This is the time of year when media people like to play “Top Ten List” for just about anything. The process of forming these lists brings irascible people together to champion their own favorites and argue (ever so politely…or not) with their colleagues. Some of the lists produced are also illuminating to those who read them.

In the spirit (sort of) of such listings, I’ve put together a list of products or technologies that are making their way toward extinction. Not duds, like the Apple Lisa or Microsoft’s Bob, but the tried and true that are approaching obsolescence. Some will be mourned. Some not.

1. DVD Players (really debatable, but yeah sure, eventually…)
2. Fax machines (except for hospitals)
3. Analog TVs (real soon now)
4. Landline phones (except for 50% of the world that’s rural)
5. Dongles (hated monitoring devices stuck on computers)
6. Computer mice (I dunno, I still can’t talk to my computer.)
7. Mobile phone chargers
8. Operating systems (over Microsoft’s dead body…)
9. Hard drives (although the data world will spin for a while longer)
10. Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs – going, going….)

Feel free to add your own.
